From Bangkok: Floating Market and Ayutthaya Guided Day Tour

4.6 (1,718 verified reviews)

About This Experience

Bigcountry's long day covers the two classic markets and Ayutthaya in one go: Maeklong Railway Market, Damnoen Saduak Floating Market and three Ayutthaya temples. It holds 4.6 from 1,710 reviews. The $59 price excludes lunch and temple tickets; with both, it is about $83–86 per person.

From River City it is about 1.5 hours to Maeklong, where you have about 45 minutes to walk the market and watch the train pass as vendors pull back their awnings. You do not ride it. Before leaving the area you visit a traditional Thai house where natural brown coconut sugar is made. A 30-minute drive brings you to Damnoen Saduak, where a boat ride takes you into the market and you have about 1.5 hours to explore.

After lunch you drive about 2 hours to Ayutthaya for Wat Phra Si Sanphet, Wat Mahathat, with the Buddha head in the tree roots, and the large reclining Buddha at Wat Lokayasutharam, at roughly 35 to 40 minutes each. The coach returns to Bangkok in about 1.5 hours, dropping off at Bangkok Experience Lounge or MBK Center.

This suits travelers who have one day and want both the markets and Ayutthaya. Expect a lot of coach time and short stops. Some English speakers were grouped with Japanese speakers and found the commentary limited, and the optional lunch gets weak reviews. Damnoen Saduak and Maeklong were flood-affected in October 2026, so check current conditions with the operator before you go.

Everything went great! Tour started on time, we visited all the places and had a great time. Our tour guide, Jockey, was super attentive, always giving good recommendations and taking care of us. Super recommended! Only thing I would recommend is to spend a little more time at the Railway market (we were there for 30 mins only). Thanks again!

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the $59 price include lunch and temple tickets?

No. The $59 option excludes lunch and the Ayutthaya temple entrance fees. Options that include them cost about $83–86 per person. Several guests who took the lunch rated it poorly, so the cheaper option plus your own food at the markets is a reasonable choice.

How much time do you get at each stop?

About 45 minutes at Maeklong Railway Market, about 1.5 hours at Damnoen Saduak, and 35 to 40 minutes at each of the three Ayutthaya temples. The rest of the 12 hours is mostly coach time, about 1.5 hours out, 30 minutes between markets, 2 hours to Ayutthaya and 1.5 hours back.

Do you ride the Maeklong train?

No. You watch the train pass through the market as vendors pull back their awnings. The listing does not include a train ride. If riding the train through the market is what you want, pick a markets-only tour that lists the ride in its inclusions.

Is the boat ride at Damnoen Saduak included?

Yes. A boat ride to Damnoen Saduak Floating Market is included, and the listing describes arriving by paddle boat. After the ride you have about 1.5 hours to walk the canal-side lanes and buy snacks. Prices at Damnoen are aimed at visitors, so check before you buy.

Which Ayutthaya temples do you visit?

Wat Phra Si Sanphet, the former royal temple with its row of chedis; Wat Mahathat, known for the Buddha head in the tree roots; and Wat Lokayasutharam, with its large reclining Buddha. Cover your shoulders and knees, and bring water, since the sites are open and hot.

Is the guide English-speaking?

Guides are listed in English and Japanese. Some guests report sharing a coach with a Japanese-speaking group and hearing less in English than they expected. If detailed commentary matters, ask the operator which language your departure is run in.
