Bangkok: Floating & Maeklong Markets Tour by Private Charter

About This Experience

This is a car-and-driver charter for the day, not a set tour. You book 8, 10 or 12 hours of service, get picked up between 7:00 and 10:00am from a Bangkok hotel or either airport, and decide which of the markets west of the city to visit and in what order. Fuel, tolls, parking and the boat transfer into Damnoen Saduak are covered; meals and entry tickets are not.

The listing suggests Damnoen Saduak Floating Market, the Maeklong Railway Market, Wat Bang Kung, a coconut sugar farm, an elephant camp, two other temples and, later in the day, firefly watching at Amphawa. The drive to Damnoen Saduak is about 1.5 hours each way, so most people pick two or three stops. Fireflies are never guaranteed and are best in the rainy months.

It suits families and small groups who want to set their own pace, and it is good value when three people share the car. The price is per car from $138 for an 8-hour sedan for up to 3; bigger vehicles and longer days cost more, and overtime is THB 300 per hour, paid on the day. Agree the return time with the driver at the start.

The caveat is language and the market itself. The driver speaks Thai and basic English and leans on a translation app, so add the licensed guide if you want explanations, and expect Damnoen Saduak to be very touristy. Damnoen Saduak and the surrounding districts were flood-affected in October 2026, so check conditions with the operator before you go.

Good to Know & Caveats

  • The price is per car: from $138 for an 8-hour sedan carrying up to 3 people. Larger vehicles and 10- or 12-hour service cost more.
  • Departures run between 7:00 and 10:00am from Bangkok hotels, Suvarnabhumi or Don Mueang. Choose an early start if Damnoen Saduak matters most to you, as it is a morning market.
  • The driver is a driver, not a guide, and speaks Thai and basic English with a translation app. Book the licensed guide add-on if you want commentary along the way.
  • Overtime is THB 300 per hour for the driver, and the same again for a guide if you added one, payable on the day and subject to availability. Agree your return time before you set off.
  • Several guests found Damnoen Saduak very touristy and souvenir-heavy, and liked the Maeklong Railway Market more. With a private car you can trim the floating market time and spend it elsewhere.
  • Damnoen Saduak, Amphawa and Maeklong were flood-affected in October 2026; check current conditions with the operator before travelling.
  • Free cancellation up to 24 hours in advance for a full refund.

What Travelers Say

Rated 4.5/5 by 79 verified GetYourGuide travelers.

We were able to adapt the itinerary to make it more suitable for our group. We enjoyed the visit to the Maeklong Railway Market, the coconut sugar farm, the Damnoen Saduak floating market and a stop for lunch at the Buffalo Amphawa. A wonderful day indeed. I recommend taking the 8 hours package like we did over the 6 hrs option to not be hurried through.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is the private charter priced?

Per car. The starting price of $138 was for an 8-hour sedan carrying up to 3 people when we checked in October 2026. Larger vehicles for bigger groups and 10- or 12-hour service cost more. Tips, meals, attraction tickets and any overtime are extra.

Does the driver speak English?

The listing says the driver speaks Thai and basic English, helped by a translation app, so do not expect commentary on the markets. If you want an English, Chinese, Korean or Japanese speaker to explain the markets, book the licensed guide add-on, which the operator offers separately.

Which markets can I visit on this charter?

You choose. The listing suggests Damnoen Saduak Floating Market, the Maeklong Railway Market, Wat Bang Kung, a coconut sugar farm, an elephant camp, Wat Bang Kraprom, Wat Chulamanee and Amphawa firefly watching. With 1.5 hours of driving each way, two or three stops fit comfortably in an 8-hour day.

Is the Damnoen Saduak boat ride included?

The includes list names a boat transfer, and the description says the boat package takes about an hour along the canal from the pier to Damnoen Saduak Floating Market. Confirm the boat is part of the option you book, and ask the driver where it starts so you know how long you will have at the market.

What happens if we run over our booked hours?

Overtime is charged at THB 300 per hour for the driver, plus THB 300 per hour for a guide if you added one. It is subject to availability and paid directly on the day. Bangkok traffic on the way back can add time, so agree a return time with the driver at the start.

Can I cancel the private charter?

Yes. Cancel up to 24 hours in advance for a full refund, and you can reserve now and pay later. Damnoen Saduak, Amphawa and Maeklong were flood-affected in October 2026, so check current conditions with the operator shortly before your date.
