From Bangkok: Ayutthaya & Ayothaya Floating Market Day Trip

4.7 (6,394 verified reviews)

About This Experience

Hana Go Pro's day trip is an Ayutthaya temple tour with a stop at Ayothaya Floating Market, a replica market in Ayutthaya. It does not go to Damnoen Saduak or Maeklong. From $45 per person with all four admission tickets, it holds 4.7 from 6,385 reviews.

You meet at Robinson Sukhumvit near BTS Asok and drive about 2 hours north. The first stop is Wat Yai Chai Mongkhon, built in 1357, for about an hour. Ayothaya Floating Market follows, with an hour for lunch at your own expense among more than 100 stalls. The afternoon covers Wat Mahathat, with the Buddha head in the tree roots, and Wat Phra Si Sanphet, about 45 minutes each, before the 2-hour drive back.

The guide speaks English and Thai, and the group travels in an air-conditioned vehicle. There is no hotel pickup, so plan your own ride to Asok. Ayutthaya's temples have a dress code: no short skirts, sleeveless or see-through tops, ripped clothes or sportswear.

It suits travelers who mainly want Ayutthaya and are happy with a short, staged market stop. If a boat market or the train market is the point of your day, pick a Damnoen Saduak or Maeklong tour. Several guests call Ayothaya touristy, and the temple grounds are hot and exposed, so bring sun protection.

Good but I think I would have appreciated a bit more time at the second place to look around the gardens properly. The guide was very nice and gave tips what to do in Bangkok und explains the history and Thailands kulter a bit and she was very happy to help. It everything was clearly structured and well communicated.

not too long at each stop max our guide was very helpful, polite and accommodating. The floating market was OK. however the 3 different cites we went were excellent and you were able to walk all around them. worth noting you need to have covered shoulders and knees.to see all on the tour. overall worth the money and a visit.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Ayothaya Floating Market the same as Damnoen Saduak?

No. Ayothaya Floating Market is a replica market in Ayutthaya with more than 100 stalls, aimed largely at visitors. Damnoen Saduak is a separate, larger boat market about 80–100 km southwest of Bangkok. This tour visits only Ayothaya, for about an hour with lunch.

Which temples does the tour visit?

Three: Wat Yai Chai Mongkhon for about an hour, then, after the market, Wat Mahathat, known for the Buddha head entwined in tree roots, and Wat Phra Si Sanphet, about 45 minutes each. Admission tickets for all three and for Ayothaya market are included in the $45 price.

Is there hotel pickup?

No. Hotel pickup and drop-off are excluded. You meet in front of McDonald's at Robinson Sukhumvit near BTS Asok, at least 10 minutes early. In Grab or Bolt, search for Robinson Sukhumvit, since the street address leads to the wrong place. You are dropped back near the meeting point.

Is lunch included?

No. You get about an hour at Ayothaya Floating Market to buy lunch at your own expense, so bring cash in baht. Food and drinks are excluded for the whole day. One guest found the time for eating short, so it helps to choose quickly.

What should I wear?

Cover up for the temples. The listing does not allow short skirts, sleeveless shirts, see-through or ripped clothing, or sportswear. Light trousers or a long skirt and a T-shirt work well. Comfortable shoes and a hat help, since the temple grounds are open and involve a lot of walking in the heat.
