Floating market prices near Bangkok: free entry, shared tours from $12, private tours from $113, Damnoen boat prices in baht, food, transport and tips.

Updated October 2026

None of the floating markets near Bangkok charges an entrance fee, so the bill is transport, a boat and food. Shared day tours to Damnoen Saduak and Maeklong Railway Market start from $12 to $24 per person, private tours from about $113 to $178 per person, and a boat at Damnoen costs roughly 400 to 850 baht per boat when booked through an operator, against the 2,000 to 4,000 baht quotes touts give walk-up visitors. The figures below are the prices we checked on real dates in October 2026, and the floating market boat rides page compares the boat-inclusive tours side by side.

Prices checked on real dates in October 2026

We checked prices on real bookable dates in October 2026, for two adults. The headline “from” price is the cheapest option on the listing, and other options on the same tour cost more.

  • On the Damnoen Saduak and Maeklong tour, the 25-seat bus option was about $24 per person, a 12-person small group from the River City meeting point about $29, and the small group with hotel pickup about $35.
  • On the Floating Market and Train Market Experience, the standard meeting-point option was about $15 and the premium small group about $42.
  • The Ayutthaya combinations have cheaper versions without lunch or temple tickets: Floating Market and Ayutthaya Guided Day Tour is $59 without them and about $83 to $86 with them, while Ayutthaya & Ayothaya Floating Market Day Trip is $45 with temple tickets and about $27 without.
  • Private tours are priced per person on a sliding scale, so a solo traveler pays much more. On the private railway market and Damnoen tour, one traveler alone was quoted around $218 to $236, against $117 each for a pair.
  • The per-boat and per-car prices are for the whole boat or car. The Damnoen boat tour was $45 per boat for a 60-minute rowboat, about $51 for a 60-minute motorboat and about $65 for 90 minutes. The private charter was $138 for an 8-hour sedan for up to three, about $171 for an 8-hour van for five to nine with the boat, and about $205 for a 12-hour van. Driver overtime is 300 baht an hour, paid on the day.

Boat prices at Damnoen Saduak

Entry to Damnoen Saduak is free; the boat is a paid service, and there is no market-wide price board. Prices are set by each pier or operator and are often negotiated. Agree the price, the duration and whether it is per person or per boat before you board.

Walk-up private boat, 20262,500–4,000 baht for 1 hourPer boat, first quote

One tactic to know about: some drivers drop visitors about 1 km short of the market and say a boat is required, then quote around 2,000 baht per person. If your tour lists a paddle boat or long-tail in its inclusions, you do not need to buy another one. Guests over 100 kg or taller than 185 cm on the $12 shared tour may be asked to pay 250 baht for a separate boat.

Boats at other markets cost far less. At Khlong Lat Mayom, canal boats run about 60 to 100 baht per person for 1 to 1.5 hours. At Taling Chan, reported prices are 99 baht per person for a three-market boat trip and 69 baht for a one-hour loop. Firefly boats at Amphawa are reported at about 60 to 80 baht per person on a shared boat, or about 600 baht for a private boat.

Food and market spending

Food at the local weekend markets is cheap. At Taling Chan, Thai desserts are about 20 baht a box, herb juices 15 to 20 baht, noodles about 65 baht and an oyster omelette about 40 baht. At Khlong Lat Mayom, a grilled snakehead fish set is about 200 baht. Damnoen Saduak is different: snacks and souvenirs are priced for tour groups, and guests report paying several times the Bangkok price for a plate of fried bananas. Food and souvenir prices are generally fixed within a few baht, so bargaining is mostly for boats.

Bring cash. Many stalls take no cards, and Khlong Lat Mayom has only a small ATM near the entrance.

Damnoen Saduak is about 80 to 100 km southwest of Bangkok, usually 1.5 to 2 hours by road, so the cheap bus costs you time; the floating market without a tour guide weighs it against a tour.

Tips

Tipping is optional in Thailand. A common guideline is about 100 to 200 baht per person for a small-group or private tour, more for a private guide (one guide suggests about 1,000 baht for a full day), and nothing expected on a large group tour.

The Mae Klong basin markets were hit by floods in October 2026, so check current conditions with your operator before traveling.
